If you’re a business owner, employee or even a busy parent, and you’re not using ChatGPT to save you time, you’re missing out.
It can help you create content, plan meals, write code, proofread emails — the list goes on. But the secret to getting incredible, life-changing results from ChatGPT lies in the art of prompting.
Awesome ChatGPT prompts can help you grow your business without investing more than a few minutes a month into your marketing, admin or whatever other area you have it helping with. But what is a ChatGPT prompt and how do you write awesome AI prompts to give you unique, engaging content? This is what I’m going to be revealing to you today!
What is a ChatGPT Prompt?
A ChatGPT prompt is a phrase or instruction that you give to the ChatGPT AI model to generate a response. This prompt can be a question, statement or any other stimulus intended to spark creativity, reflection or generate information.
Still lost? Look, I don’t blame you as it took me a while to get my head around AI too, which is why I teach people how to use ChatGPT effectively without wasting time!
Essentially, a ChatGPT is what you tell the ChatGPT AI tool to do for you. You could ask for ideas, templates, lists, research, captions, website content, blogs, code, math equations — the list is endless. If you need a solution or even just to brainstorm, your prompt is crucial to getting the result you need to save you time on ChatGPT.
Why ChatGPT Prompts are Important for Getting the Most from AI
ChatGPT prompts are crucial for getting the most out of AI-generated content. Learning how to write effective prompts is essential to creating compelling content that resonates with your audience and helps you save time.
The specificity and clarity of the instructions are crucial in crafting good prompts for ChatGPT. By providing ChatGPT with inputs, we guide its behavior and responses. ChatGPT prompts can be used for various NLP (natural-language processing) tasks, including text generation, question-answering, and dialogue management. The more specific and carefully worded the prompt is, the better the responses will be. Effective prompts create compelling content that can be used for various tasks, from trivia to marketing, history, and educational prompts.
Tips for Creating ChatGPT Prompts from an AI Coach
Tip One: Simplify and be direct
Keep it simple and be direct when you’re creating your prompts. Tell ChatGPT what you want, who you want it for and what it’ll be used for, or its purpose. While the more information ChatGPT has, the more accurate and unique the content or response will be, you’re using AI to save time.
Learn what it is ChatGPT needs from you to create the response, and give them that — no more, no less. Think of the ‘who, what, when, where, why and how’ from school. Answer those questions briefly (it doesn’t even need to be full sentences) and press the ‘go’ button. This is where the next few ChatGPT prompt-writing tips will help you refine your answers and get the best responses for your needs.
Tip Two: Re-prompt
Didn’t get the response you were hoping for? Re-prompt! If you stay in the conversation and do not open a new window, you can continue to add more information to your prompt to refine your response. For example, you may need more or less content, ideas or whatever you’ve asked the AI to create. Or, it may not be in the tone you want.
Make note of what you need to re-prompt on and add it to future prompts to help save you more time in the future. ChatGPT-4 does learn about you and your tone, so over time, you’ll find you actually need to give it less and less information anyway.
Tip Three: Avoid conflicting terms
Remember, AI is not a human, and it’s not going to ask questions back to get more information. It’s simply going to work with what you give it. So, if you’re not clear or your information is conflicting, you may not get the results you want.
For example, if you ask for a natural, casual tone of voice, it may not be effective to also ask for a corporate or hyper-professional tone of voice as these are conflicting. Remember, stick to the point and keep it simple when it comes to creating prompts for ChatGPT.
Tip Four: Use templates

Tip Five: Try different prompts
ChatGPT can give you responses in a number of ways and formats, including in text, tables, calendars and more. Experimenting with different prompts can help you find the right solution for your needs, whether you’re creating a month of social media posts or finding ideas for your next big product. The options with what you can use ChatGPT to do really are endless.
